Petter-Børre Furberg, head of Telenor Norway announced in the past that the company would quit Huawei's network equipment within four to five years. Huawei has had to deal with intense surveillance in Europe since the US allegations of security threats. Huawei has repeatedly denied the US government's allegations.Telenor has been working with Huawei 4G for more than a decade. Now Hanne Knudsen, Telenor's vice president, told Reuters that the company is now working on infrastructure development.

In response to a question, Knudsen said, "Ericsson has been recognized as the new supplier for 5G RAN. But we will also work with Huawei on upgrading 4G and 5G."

RAN stands for Radio Access Network. This refers to the addition of radio and antenna to the smartphone network. Telenor is also working with Nokia and Ericsson to build their core network, the report said.
