Letter from US Congress to Google and Apple seeking information about the app

Congressman Stephen Lynch sent a letter to Google and Apple asking them to disclose whether there were any transactions with other countries. The United States recently expressed such concerns after reports of Chinese investment in various popular apps, including Tiktok.

In a statement, Stephen said he wants Google and Apple to know if app makers need to inform that app makers have connections with countries other than the United States. The United States alleged that China is collecting information of US citizens through various apps. Hostile relations between the two countries are going on.

Meanwhile, ByteDance, a wholly owned subsidiary of TikTok, has removed most Chinese partners from the app in the interest of US national security policy. And for the same reason, it is said that a popular dating app made by Chinese video gaming company will be sold in June 2020.

Stephen said in the letter that the media recently reported that some foreign companies and app developers are collecting information of US citizens through their mobile apps, which is a threat to national security. The US law allows users of these mobile apps to collect personal information, but it is against the law to smuggle out such information, he said.

However, Apple and Google did not comment.
