Mahathir is optimistic about the Rohingya massacre trial

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has strongly criticized Myanmar for the Rohingya persecution. At the same time, he expressed optimism that the Rohingya genocide trial would begin at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Netherlands. Mahathir was interviewed by Reuters on Tuesday about the launch of the trial at the ICJ, he said, "We hope that they will be able to explain and acknowledge the massacre that took place.

In the interview, Mahathir said he would step down for successor Anwar Ibrahim, although not before November. Anwar has recently been accused of sexual harassment. Asked if he would still hand over power to him, Mahathir said, "I promised to transfer power and I will keep it."
