The Sultan of Oman dies

Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said Said died Friday after suffering from cancer at the age of 79. Sultan Qaboos was in power in Oman for nearly four decades.

The royal family will decide on the nomination of the new Sultan in Oman within 72 hours, the media Al Jazeera reported. Meanwhile, three days of state mourning in Oman has been declared in the death of Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said.

Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said took power on 23  July 1970 after his father was ousted in a successful coup. However, Sultan Qaboos could not leave a successor because he wasn't married. Sultan was born in Salalah, Oman, on 18 November 1940.
