Egyptian pyramid

An Egyptian pyramid is a pyramid built as a funerary monument for pharaohs, the then rulers of ancient Egypt. The pharaoh was mummified after death and placed in the interior of the pyramid with valuables and personal belongings. In total, about eighty pyramids have been preserved, built over a period of about a thousand years.

The construction site of pyramids was always carefully chosen. Often they were built on a limestone subsoil because it formed a strong subsoil, necessary for the weight of the pyramids.

The most famous pyramids are the Pyramids of Giza near the Egyptian capital Cairo.
