WADA banned Russia for four years from all major international sports.

Russia is banned for 3 years in international sport of doping scandal.
This means that Russia's national flag will not be seen or Russia's national music will not be played at the Tokyo Olympics of 2020 and Qatar World Cup in 2022. Russian athletes who can prove that they are not involved in the use of force-enhancing drugs can, however, personally participate in international sports. But instead of the Russian flag they have to compete with a neutral flag. The decision to ban Russia was taken at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in Switzerland.

Earlier, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) was accused of not cooperating in the investigation of the scandal. WADA alleges that they were implicated in the information they handed over to the laboratory tests on January 2019.

For years, Russia has been investigating allegations of drug use in sports. Russia was also banned for three years. The ban was later lifted, though the decision was controversial.

Russia has been given 21 days to appeal the sanctions this time.

Russia had 168 competitors in the Winter Olympics 2018, but they had to carry neutral flags instead of Russian flags because of sanctions. When the Winter Olympic Games took place in Sochi, Russia, in 2014, Russia was accused of a doping scandal. Russia won a total of 13 medals, including three gold medals.
