Trump has consulted with his security team following an attack in Iraq

The White House is aware of attacks on US facilities in Iraq, including at least two Iraqi military bases.

This is stated by the White House in a statement on the night of Wednesday Danish time.

- The president has been briefed and is closely monitoring the situation and is consulting with his national security team, White House press officer Stephanie Grisham writes on Twitter.

Initially, it sounded like the president would comment on the attack in a speech from the Oval Room in the White House. But shortly before three o'clock in Denmark, officials say it will not happen.

At least six rockets have hit the Ain Al-Asad air base in Iraq, where there are both US and Danish soldiers.

It confirms US officials to the Reuters news agency.

The security level in the White House has been raised as a result of the attack, a CNN official said.

The Iranian news agency Fars wrote shortly after the news of the attack in a tweet that "Iran's revenge has begun".

It is a reference to the US military's killing of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani last week.

The United States believes there may have been several attacks against various locations in Iraq, including the Ain Al-Asad base.

An air base in Erbil in northern Iraq has also been attacked. It states the US Department of Defense, the Pentagon.

"We are working to assess the extent of damage," Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement according to Reuters.

At the same time, the Pentagon states that it is clear that the missiles were fired from Iran.

"Iran fired more than a dozen ballistic missiles at US military and coalition forces in Iraq," the Pentagon said.

Shortly before two o'clock on Wednesday night, Reuters writes that according to the Arab television station Al Mayadeen, sirens can be heard at the Ain Al-Asad base, as well as helicopters being seen flying over the base.

US President Donald Trump visited the Ain Al-Asad base during his December 2018 trip to Iraq.

US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said on Tuesday that the United States should be prepared for Iranian retaliation for the US drone killing of General Qassem Soleimani.
